The Role of the Vice President's Advisory Committee in Course Review

The Vice President's Advisory Committee (VPAC) is appointed by the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. The committee consists of representatives from each academic college and school, as well as ex officio members from Academic Affairs and the Office of the Registrar. VPAC advises the Provost on the implementation of University of Maryland academic policies and procedures related to courses approved for academic credit, and acts with the delegated authority of the Senate Committee on Programs, Curricula, and Courses (Article 6.12c3). The VPAC forum allows colleges and schools to stay informed of course changes elsewhere on campus, and to identify potential problems for resolution.

VPAC review is required when new courses are proposed, when courses are to be removed from the approved courses inventory, and for all substantial changes in the characteristics of an existing course. This includes changes in title, catalog description, prerequisites, grading method, credit level, or course number.
